Three-time Delhi chief minister and senior Congress leader Sheila Dikshit breathed her last at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute in New Delhi on Saturday. Â 81-year-old Dikshit was admitted to the hospital in a critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest.
A multi-disciplinary team of doctors, led by Dr Ashok Seth, Chairman, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, carried out the advanced resuscitative measures. Her condition stabilised temporarily. However, she had another cardiac arrest and despite all the resuscitative efforts, passed away at 3:55 pm. She was appointed the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president ahead of the Lok Sabha poll. She too had contested the elections unsuccessfully. She was in news recently over her rift with AICC in-charge PC Chacko.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis too to twitter to pay tributes to former Delhi CM. In a tweet, Fadnavis said, “Saddened and shocked to know about sudden demise of former Delhi CM Smt Sheila Dikshit ji. My deepest condolences to her family and followers.”
Nagpur MP and Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari also paid tributes to her and wrote on her twitter handle that Dikshit’s contribution to the development of Delhi would always be remembered.
