The seeded players had smooth sailing in Nagpur District Sub-Junior and Senior Badminton tournament at the Subhedar Hall here on Saturday. The four-day tourney is being organized by the Nagpur District Badminton Association.
In the women’s singles, Aasavari Khandekar, Bhargavi Rambhad, Kripi Sajwan, Chaitali Nayse, Devika Kawale, Arya Anchalwar, Anjali Kshirsagar and Sanika Durugkar entered the quarters.
In Under-10 boys cagegory, top seed Sairaj Nayse, second seed Anirudh Bhat, Hridaan Singh, Manit Chandak, Atharva Urade, Aarav Thakre, Sparsh Nandanwar and Atharva Wanjari made it to the quarterfinals.
Nine-year-old Sairaj caused a minor upset when he edged out Sparsh Kawale 15-12, 10-15, 15-13 to seal last-eight spot in the U-13 boys singles too. In an exciting U-13 boys singles third round outing, Sairaj raised his level of play to oust 11-year-old Sparsh. After both the players shared the first two games, it was a tough fight in the decider.
In the girls section top seed Fizza Akbani, second seed Anvee Wajgi, Avani Zadgaonkar, Swasti Thakre, Anvita Shrivastav, Vanshika Rathi, Grishma Kaishalwar and Bhargavi Giradkar posted straight-game victories in their respective pre-quarters.
All the quarterfinals will be played on Saturday morning, while the semis will be held later in the afternoon session. Finals will take place on Monday evening.
