Nagpur-Delhi duo finishes second at All India Senior Ranking Tournament in Hyderabad
Bringing a ray of hope to the Indian badminton circuit, Nagpur’s Ritika Thaker and Delhi’s Nitin Kumar secured a silver medal in their debut outing as a mixed doubles pair at the All India Senior Ranking Tournament held at the Jwala Gutta Stadium in Hyderabad.
In their very first tournament together, the newly formed pair showcased promising coordination and determination, advancing all the way to the finals. Despite their spirited performance, they were overpowered by the top-seeded duo of Sathwik and Radhika, losing the match in straight games, 15-21 and 10-21. Ritika and Nitin started strong, keeping pace with the top seeds in the early phase of the first game with the score at 10-11, before losing momentum.
Speaking after the match, Ritika said, “They are happy with the Silver Medal as this has given them an opportunity to plan their strategy and iron out problems on court. This is the first time Nitin and me played mixed doubles.”
She also expressed gratitude to her parents, coach Arun Vishnu for his untiring efforts, and Utkarsh Arora for his guidance. Ritika currently trains at the Arundhati Arun Badminton Academy in Nagpur.
