Police commissioner Dr Bhushankumar Upadhyay has appealed to the members of the general public that residents of Nagpur should help keep the identity of Nagpur as a city of social harmony as it has been known since ages. The cyber cell of the police has been keeping eye on the social media and anyone found creating religious disharmony during the ongoing festive season through misuse of social media will be strictly dealt with, he warned.
The festive season is already on with eid, Raksha Bandhan and then subsequently with more festivals about to follow, the anti-social elements in the society try to drive a wedge between various sects and religion and try to create disharmony by playing DJs loudly or throwing colours, playing bands, drums etc and create chaos. The police held a meeting of peace panel on Saturday at Rajwada palace on this background.
Dr Upadhyay was in the chair. MLAs Vikas Kumbhare, Dr Milind Mane, Prakash Gajbhiye, joint police commissioner Ravindra Kadam, additional commissioner B G Gaikar, Shashikant Mahavarkar and members of peace committee from various parts of the city and officers from various departments and NMC along with citizens were present in large numbers.
These days most youth remain active on social media and hence the anti-social elements attempt to spoil the minds of this generation through social media and so the parents should keep a check on their wards, the police advised. The purpose of the meeting of peace panel was put forth by the police deputy commissioner Nirmala Devi in her introductory address. Deputy commissioner Rahul Maknikar in his signature style made public express their views on “what is expected of the police force”.
