Nagpur district badminton players created history by clinching the title in Yonex Sunrise Maharashtra Senior inter-District Championship for the first time at Parbhani, here on Wednesday.
In the final, Nagpur defeated Pune 3-2. In the men’s singles, Rohan Gurbani gave winning start to Nagpur defeating Arya Bhivpathki 21-17, 15-21, 21-14 in 40 minutes. However, in the women singles, Mugdha Agrey lost to Neha Pandit 12-21, 21-6, 14-21. In the men’s doubles, Rohan Gurbani and Saurabh Kerhalkar pair lost to Abhishek Kulkarni-Rishabh Deshpande duo 7-21, 10-21 and conceded 1-2 Â lead to Pune.
In the women doubles, experienced pair of Rashi-Lambe and Ritika Thaker downed Neha Pandit-Purva Barve 21-13, 21-15 and restored parity.
In the mixed doubles event that lasted for 40 minutes, Rashi Lambe-Rohan Gurbani notched up 12-21, 21-14, 21-12 victory and clinched the title.
Earlier in the semis, Nagpur defeated Thane 3-2 whereas Pune entered the final defeating Mumbai Suburban 3-0.
