Around 8,000 landline connections of State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Itwari were affected after thieves steal underground cable. The phone connections were provided from Itwari Telephone exchange of BSNL Nagpur Telecom District
According to the sources, the BSNL cable was pulled out and cut roughly from the duct on Central Avenue, informed the PRO, Sameer Khare.
About 3500 connections have been restored and work on the other 2500 lines is in the last stage while 800 to 1000 connections will take some more time as repair work is in progress, Khare added.
Khare said that BSNL is at receiving end in a competitive telecom market and this senseless damage to its infrastructure further affects its revenue.
Speaking about the robbery, Khare said that the work is very minute which indicates that those who did the damage seem to have technical knowledge. Each and every connection needs to be glued and joined together for the restoration of service and it is a time-consuming job, Khare pointed out further. He said BSNL is trying its level best to restore all connections at the earliest.
