The ongoing roadside pay and park system at various market places in the city has proven to be a blunderous move as it has only caused an increase in the traffic jam.
According to Market regulations, every market places should have a reserved place arranged by Municipal but the reality is that these open spaces have been converted into a pay and park system. In crowded markets roadside used as parking makes the open area narrow leading to traffic jams and causing a problem to the vendors, pedestrians and citizens who come to visit the market frequently.
As per the Municipal laws it is mandatory to have parking spaces at market places in the city like Sitabuldi, Central Bazar Road, Itwari, Mahal, Sakkardhara, Dharampeth, Congress Nagar, Sadar, Gokulpeth, Khamla, and other places, but no free space is available for parking rather it has been converted and sold to the merchants.
Akhil Bhartiya Grahak Panchayat (ABGP) Vidarbha organizing secretary Gajanan Pande has raised a question on the pay and park system in the market place. ABGP has also demanded NMC to vacate the reserved parking spaces and provide free parking arrangements.
