A 39-year-old man from Pune tragically lost his life after falling into an open lift shaft at a building construction site in Nagpur’s Hudkeshwar area. The deceased, identified as Rajesh Govindrao Jagtap, had come to the city to attend a relative’s funeral.
The incident took place around 9:30 PM on July 1 at Plot No. 86, near Gajanan School, Sawshree Nagar, Dighori. After attending the funeral rituals, Rajesh was on a phone call and walked up to the first floor of a nearby under-construction building. Unaware of the surroundings and in low visibility, he accidentally lost his balance and fell into a pit that had been dug for installing a lift.
Jagtap, a resident of Gokul Society, Gat No. 1398, Sone Chowk, Balaji Market, Chikhali, Pune, sustained critical injuries in the fall. He was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment. Despite efforts, doctors declared him dead at 5:00 AM on July 2 during the course of treatment.
Following a medical report, Hudkeshwar Police registered an accidental death case. Authorities are now examining whether the construction site had adequate safety measures in place.
Further investigation is underway to determine liability and assess if negligence contributed to the fatal incident.
