Nagpur’s monsoon turned active again from Friday after nearly ten dry days, as light pre-monsoon-style showers dropped the day’s maximum temperature by seven degrees, bringing relief from the heat and humidity that had gripped the city.
Weather officials said conditions are favourable for heavier rain in the coming days. After a delayed monsoon onset, Vidarbha had seen nearly two weeks of good rain before an El Niño-linked lull set in. The Meteorological Department has now forecast a fresh spell over the next four to five days, with heavy to very heavy rain likely in Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Bhandara, and light to moderate showers elsewhere in the region — welcome news for farmers after the dry stretch.
Skies changed suddenly from Friday morning, with intermittent light rain through the day and heavier spells in some areas by evening. Nagpur’s maximum temperature fell from 36.2°C to 29.2°C in 24 hours, while Gondia’s minimum dropped by seven degrees. Gondia recorded the region’s highest rainfall, 35 mm till 7:30 pm.
