City cager Shomira Bidaye has been selected to participate in the 3rd NBA Academy India Women’s Program Training Camp scheduled to be held at Mumbai from October 1 to 6.
The NBA Academies Women’s Program are elite development camps at the leagues’ academies for top female prospects. The players have been individually selected by the NBA and NBA India based on their outstanding basketball skills and leadership abilities. The NBA Academy India Women’s Training Camp will be a unique opportunity for each player to improve their basketball ability, be coached by WNBA Legend/Olympic Gold Medalist Jennifer Azzi and get to know other basketball players her age from the region.
A student of Centre Point School, Katol Road, Shomira practices at the Shivaji Nagar Gymkhana and is being trained by Shatrughna Gokhale and Vinay Chikate. The NBA Academy India Women’s Program Training Camp hosted by the National Basketball Association will be held at the American School of Bombay, India from October 1st – 6th.
The NBA will cover all expenses incurred by the participants of the camp, including travel costs, accommodation, ground transportation, meals and insurance for the duration of the camp. From October 2 to 5 Jennifer Azzi and former college coach Blair Hardiek will lead the participants in basketball skill development, strength, and conditioning, life skills sessions, games and competitions. Each camper will be provided with a training kit.
For her inclusion in the camp, Shomira has been congratulated by the president of Nagpur District Basketball Association (NDBA) Sandeep Joshi, secretary Bhavesh Kuchanwar and all members of the district body.
