The District Customer Grievance Redressal Forum has asked online tour and travels service providing portal MakeMyTrip India to return ₹ 25,736 to the customer with 12 percent interest and also pay a compensation of ₹ 90,000.
Vijay Bajaj had lodged a complaint against the firm accusing it of not providing services as promised. After hearing the consumer forum gave its order in favour of the consumer and ordered MakeMyTrip to pay ₹ 25,736 rupees along with 12 percent interest and ₹ 90,000.
The interest has been implemented from 3 June 2016 till the date lump sum payment. The compensation includes ₹ 80,000 towards physical and mental problems caused to the complainant and ₹ 10,000 towards legal expenses.
President of the forum, Sanjay Patil, members Chandrika Bais and Subhash Ajne pronounced the verdict. The company has been given a month’s time to comply with the order. According to information, Bajaj paid ₹ 49,635 to MakeMyTrip India for a trip to England and Scotland.
A Hotel in Scotland was reserved for Bajaj. He did not face any problem in his journey up to England. But after going to Scotland on 28 May 2016, he was informed that the hotel reservation has been canceled. After this, the company made alternate arrangements for them and they stayed in just one room in another hotel. Necessary facilities were not provided here.
Also, he had to wait for 6 hours for the room to be made available. Additional ₹ 38,000 were also spent and all his family members went through physical and mental problems. Therefore, Bajaj sent a legal notice to the company on September 3, 2016, and demanded ₹ 49,635 rupees back. The company returned only ₹ 23,899, after which Bajaj moved consumer forum.
