Vishveshwarya National Institute of Technology (VNIT) Nagpur is going to observe its diamond jubilee year in 2020 and the institution will be celebrating this throughout the year. The complete blueprint is ready and in January next year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the festival.
The institution has contacted the PMO and has received a positive response, sources said. VNIT formerly Visvesvaraya Regional College of Engineering was established in 1960 and its students have shone at international level.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will be the patron in chief of this festival and the institution is planning to invite either the President Ramnath Kovind or Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the inaugural programme in January.
We have contacted the PMO and have received a receipt that they have received our invitation. It will be our full endeavour that they should come as chief guest, stated Director Pramod Padole.
Various yearlong programmes would be organized in the diamond jubilee year at VNIT including bimonthly international conferences. A Nobel scientist is also likely to come for the Research Scholars Day, sources said.
About 50 short term workshops would be held in the year in which 70 experts from various fields would give lectures. Programmes in the industrial sector would also be held. Stress on service work VNIT would lay stress on service work in the year and various social drives for various classes of society would be organized.
Students and teachers would give services at orphanages, old age homes, slums, hospitals etc, sources said. World-level 12 laboratories to be started. Siemens Centre of Excellence would be established.
Total 12 world-class laboratories would be established in the Rs 180 crore project which would also include ‘Smart Factory’. Through this medium, five to 10 thousand students from the institution and various technical colleges would be trained.
Efforts would also be taken through this medium to give impetus to micro, small and medium industries, stated VNIT Administration Board President Vishram Jamdar.
