Amazon.in announced the launch of Maharashtra’s largest Fulfillment Centre (FC), expanding its infrastructure footprint in the state. This will help Amazon.in to enhance the customer experience ahead of the festive season. The new FC, which is located near Bhiwandi, Mumbai, has added more than 1.5 million cubic feet of storage space and will enable faster deliveries of customer orders within the region and neighboring states. With this infrastructure, Amazon.in now has a storage capacity of more than 6.5 million cubic feet spread across 14 fulfillment centers in Maharashtra. Amazon India will exit 2019 with more than 50 fulfillment centers in 13 states across the country with a combined storage space of close to 25 million cubic feet.
Commenting on the launch, Akhil Saxena, Vice President, India Customer Fulfilment, Amazon India, said, “We are excited to launch Maharashtra’s largest Fulfilment Centre. The new infrastructure will enable us to serve our customers better, and will further help us support small & medium businesses in the region to fulfill their customer orders seamlessly. Our deep investments in the state will also create thousands of opportunities for employment. We will create close to 2000 direct and indirect job opportunities over the next year in this new fulfillment center. These associates will help serve our customers better, and enable us to consistently deliver best in class customer experienceâ€.
Amazon has one of the most advanced fulfillment networks in the world and sellers in India have been benefitting from Amazon’s expertise in fulfillment, reliable nationwide delivery, and customer service. When using Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA), sellers across India send their products to Amazon’s FCs and once an order is placed, Amazon picks, packs & ships the order to the customer, provides customer service support and manages returns on behalf of the sellers. The FC in Maharashtra will cater to customer demand for products in categories such as Smartphones, Consumer Electronics, Appliances, Fashion and Consumables (FMCG).
