In a big catch on Tuesday, the Nuisance Detection Squad of Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) seized six tonnes of plastic from a godown in Ganjakhet in Gandhibag Zone, despite the plastic ban. The cost of the seized stock of plastic is estimated to be Rs 5 lakh.
According to the information, the Nuisance Detection Squad of NMC received an information regarding the large number of plastic items being stored in the godown of Gurunanak stores in Ganjakhet. The squad then conducted surprise inspection at the godown.
The squad found plastic items weighing 5,952 kgs from the godown. The shop owner Omprakash Wadhwani was reportedly supplying stock to the retailers.
Dr. Pradeep Dasarwar, Nodal Officer, Swachh Bharat Mission; Ashok Patil, Assistant Commissioner, Gandhibag Zone; Veersen Tambe, In-charge of Nuisance Detection Squad, led the team that took action under relevant provisions of law and seized the stock as per the provisions of Maharashtra Government rules regarding ban on plastic items.
Abhijit Bangar, Municipal Commissioner, issued a statement on Tuesday and appealed to the people to take initiative for stricter enforcement of the ban on plastic. He appealed to the people to pass on the information about traders or retailers who violated the norms relating to ban on plastic.
