Navratri is all set to start and Garba is an essential part of this festival. During the occasion, large numbers of people come out to play the Garba. In this context, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has planned to launch an awareness campaign to spread awareness among citizens about the environmental hazards of plastic use.
The civic chief Abhijit Bangar has issued directives to the officials concerned to involve Garba mandals in the campaign. And on Wednesday, a meeting was conducted to review the implementation of the Clean India Mission campaign. The commissioner said that, during the Navratri festival, a huge crowd participates in Garba. So it’s the right time to spread awareness.
Cleanliness Week will be held as part of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi. And it has been decided that the rallies would be taken out at zonal levels. The ‘Plog Run’ is proposed to be organized on October 2 to spread awareness about plastic waste management. He also directed other government offices to get rid of single-use plastic and participate in this mission.
Additional Municipal Commissioners Ravindra Thakre, Ram Joshi, deputy commissioner Dr.Ranjana Lade, nodal officer of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Pradeep Dasarwar, health officer(sanitation) Sunil Kamble, founder of Green Vigil Foundation Kaustabh Chatterjee, Lina Budhe of the center of Sustainable Development were present at the meeting.
