The month of September is being observed as Rashtriya Poshan Maah – National Nutrition Month across India. On this occasion, Dharampeth M.P. Deo Memorial Science College had organised various events, which focused on the importance of right food choices and developing sound eating habits.
The celebration began on September 4 with an inaugural Function at the hands of HOD Department of Home Science Dr. Manju Deshpande and Sr. Professor Dr. Ranjana Kulat.
During the event, students displayed different traditional Indian recipes with traditional attire representing the states of India. Dr. Manju Deshpande appreciated the students for portraying the cultural diversity of India and emphasised on the usage of traditional Indian recipes.
On September 11, Poster and Skit competition was organised in collaboration with the Nutrition Society of India, Nagpur chapter. The students presented a short skit on Anemia. The Judges for poster making competition were Vice Principal Dr. Archana Kulkarni and Sr. Professor Dr. Ranjana Kulat. While speaking about the importance of nutrition, Dr. Kulkarni emphasised on a balanced diet and iron-rich foods. Mrs. Priya Bajaj, member NSI, NC was also present on the occasion.
Dipika Morla grabbed the first prize, Minal Khobragade stood second while Rani Raut received the Consolation prize.
On September 18 Food jewellery competition was conducted. Beautiful jewellery was made with food items and displayed on this event. Priyanka Dorle bagged the first prize in the Jewellery competition. Sangita Sahu grabbed the second spot while Riddhi Khotele got the third prize.
Judges for this competition, Dr. Archana Kulkarni and Dr. Vandana Kashikar appreciated the creativity displayed by the students.
The monthlong celebration concluded with a recipe competition and prize distribution on September 27. Recipe based on life stages were presented by 3rd semester while 5th-semester students displayed various therapeutic diet recipes.
Vaidhehi Kuber stood first in the Recipe competition (5th sem) while Riddhi Khotele got the second prize. In the 3rd semester, Sakshi Phalke got the first prize and Janvi Bankar stood second.
Principal Dr. Akhilesh Peshwe distributed the prizes. He appreciated the students and teachers for organising such varied and informative programmes. He encouraged the students to be innovative and use a scientific approach towards food. He emphasised on the culinary diversity of India and encouraged the students to broaden their scope of study towards it.
The event was compeered by Meghna Pandit and the Vote of Thanks was given by Pradnya Bagalkote. Prize winners were announced by Mayura Kathane. Shilpa Mandlekar and Dr. Srilaxmi Potluri also worked for the success of the programme.
President of Dharampeth education society Advocate Ulhas Aurangabadkar and other members of the management congratulated winners of the various events and gave their best wishes to the staff.
