A team of Street Soccer from Scotland along with city-based NGO ‘Slum Soccer’, visited Nagpur Municipal Corporation students on Friday to develop their interest in sports and teach them the basics of football.
Slum Soccer, works towards the upliftment of the underprivileged, foster sustainable development of the poor and provide long term solution of homelessness through football.
Additional Commissioner Ram Joshi, Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Mohite, Education Officer Preeti Mishri Kotkar, Sports Officer Piyush Ambulkar, Sports Inspector Naresh Chaudhary, Abhijit Barsay of Slam Soccer, Shivani Chowdhury, Shiva Marketers, Sajid Jalal, Aunt Hook of Street Soccer were present on the occasion.
Additional Commissioner Ram Joshi honoured all the dignitaries with saplings and shawls. Members of the Association of Street Soccer have come to Scotland from Nagpur to learn about various cultural and sports fields in Nagpur.
Along with football in Scotland, Slam also offers math, English and language training to poor students. The institute will provide football education lessons to various slums and poor students.
Under this scheme, students of Nagpur Municipal Corporation will be provided with football training as well as detailed training, said Abhijit Barse, CEO of Slam Soccer.
This is a very important initiative that will benefit the students of Nagpur Municipal Corporation. Additional training commissioner Ram Joshi remarked. He added that the training camp will be starting in schools where the number of students who really want to play football.
