After an advertising agency ‘The Concept’ has cut the age-old trees around a hoarding in order to get better visibility, the irked Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has decided to remove hoarding from there.
Municipal commissioner, Abhijeet Bangar has stated that “such economic losses will act a lesson for such advertising agencies and next time they will think twice before chopping off the treesâ€. For now only the advertisement has been removed from the hoarding but Bangar has got future plans to take down the whole structure, for this he has been in touch with railway authorities, who owns the land where the hoarding is based.
The residents and regular passerby had lodged a complaint to NMC, last year that the branches of the trees were chopped by the advertising agency in order to get better visibility. This same incident took place again few months back. After looking at the repeating behaviour of the agency, Bangar formed a committee and acted on the issue. This committee had members of garden department of NMC, divisional railway commercial manager and founder of green vigil foundation.
The committee after having a meeting on the stated issue decided that the trees are being cut deliberately for the promotion of advertisements on the hoarding and the agency as well. The committee further decided to take down the advertisement put up in the hoarding.
The advertising hoarding is situated opposite to bole petrol pump, for which three trees of different species, peepal, karanja and neem were being chopped.
