A group of animal lovers along with Avni foundation had gathered at Futala lake on November 2 for a candlelight vigil and to mourn for the loss of T1 tigress AVNI and other wild animals. The group read out a prayer which was especially written remembering AVNI and all wild animals. The prayer has been translated in English, Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Urdu, Punjabi.
Tigress T1 AVNI was killed last year on 2nd November. The first shoot at sight order was given to kill her when she was pregnant, which by intervention of the honourable High court was later stayed. Subsequently a second shoot at sight order was issued to eliminate her when she had two young cubs who were dependent on her for their survival. On the fateful night of November 2018 she was shot dead in cold blood by an infamous and notorious Hunter
Dr Jerryl Banait told TLN, “The hunter did everything in his capacity to kill her even when there were attempts being made to try to tranquilise her. There was even global protest and support was pouring in help for the same. But she was shot dead by the hunter flaunting many Indian wildlife laws and protocols laid down by the National Tiger Conservation Authority, (Standard operating procedures).
He further added, Subsequently two inquiries were set up, one Nationaly by NTCA and one State Committee. Both of which mentioned many violations in their report of the controversial killing. One year has been passed since AVNI was killed and yet justice has not been done.
