Responding to a suo motu, the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court has given an ultimatum to a group of respondents which includes Maharashtra Industries Development Corporation (MIDC), Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP), Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC), Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and Wadi Municipal Council to reduce pollution of Ambazari Lake.
Justice Milind Jadhav and Ravi Deshpande have warned the respondents to complete the formalities within a week by following its earlier orders or the court would impose a fine of rupees 20,000. The High Court warned the respondents   while hearing the PIL based on the report from English daily which was submitted on April 13. The PIL was filed on the high rate of dead fish in Ambazari Lake due to the pollution of water.
The lake was also getting polluted by the untreated water which was being released from the Wadi side of the lake. This water is being used for drinking purposes by more than 5,000 families in Ordnance Factory, Davlameti Gram Panchayat, and even Wadi MC.
The High Court had given orders to NMC to submit a plan to refining the lake.HC has also asked the Wadi Council to prevent the flow of contaminated water into the lake.
