Mayor Nanda Jichkar chaired the first meeting of local steering committee held on Tuesday in the office of Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Develop Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL).
AFD will appoint an international consulting agency to prepare a plan for the transition of municipal diesel buses to electric buses in phase-wise manner under it’s ambitious Mobilise Your City initiatives.
This was decided in the meeting of local steering committee. Dr Ramnath Sonwane, CEO of NSSCDCL, Sunil Gujjalwar, Chief Engineer of NIT, Dinkar Manwar, RTO, Nagpur were present prominently.
Mayor Nanda Jichkar while addressing the meeting said that MYC should conduct a study for the transition of diesel buses. The Central Government has taken an initiative to reduce carbon emissions in the growing cities by introducing electric buses.
It was informed in the meeting that the process of appointing the consultant will be completed by mid-November and the agency will start work by the end of this month.
Mayor also directed for collecting data of carbon emissions from various vehicles under MYC. This data will be provided to citizens as they can know the amount of carbon emissions from their vehicles. This will promote e-vehicles and green vehicles in the city. She has also instructed to prepare Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan with focus on e-mobility and global standards for Nagpur city. The comprehensive mobility plan was prepared in 2013 and it is necessary to prepare plan in every five years.
Rajesh Mohite, Deputy Commissioner of NMC, Vijay Banginwar, Technical Advisor , Mahesh Moroney, Deputy CEO of NSSCDCL, Mahesh Gupta, Jt General Manager of Nagpur Metro, Rajesh Dufare, General Manager Mobility, Amit Bhandari, UMTC, Nivesh Modi, Coordinator for MYC, Nagpur, S J Deshpande, Dy Engineer, and Dr Udit Jain of VNIT were present in the meeting.
