Gandhi Sagar Lake which was once a beauty and pride of the city has been converted into a dumping yard. The civic authorities have been continually ignoring the facts that the lake is being polluted because of continuous disposal of garbage in the lake and its surrounding. The residents and visitors to the lake are seen polluting the surroundings and on the entrance to the park many smoking and pan shops are seen spreading the nuisance.
People who visit the lake to feed the fish are also the ones who throw the plastic packet around the area of Gandhi Sagar Lake. The lake is surrounded by many known places of the city like Ganesh Mandir, Tata Parsi School, Raman science centre and still this place is being kept ugly and filled with trash. Since many years this lake has been getting polluted because of idols of ganesha being immersed, the said lake has also noticed intoxication of water and had noticed the marine life of the lake dying at large scale. The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) had also come up with a facility of septic tanks which was seen acting as a cure but later the same tanks were not cleaned and currently these tanks have become breeding grounds of various insects which cause diseases.
