The drama finally came to an end on Tuesday evening when President Ramnath Kovind signed the proclamation imposing President’s rule in Maharashtra State after Shiv Sena failed to form their government in Maharashtra with NCP.
The Union Cabinet on Tuesday recommended the President rule on the report of the governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari invoking Article 356 of the constitution in state. The imposition came as no party has staked claim to form the government even more than a fortnight after the results of the Assembly polls were announced on October 24.
Koshyari had earlier given the NCP time till 8.30 pm today to prove it has the numbers after the Sena on Monday failed to get letters of support from its political rivals before the deadline set by the Governor came to an end. The Sena on Tuesday also approached the Supreme Court seeking an urgent hearing against the Governor’s decision to not extend the deadline given to the Uddhav Thackeray-led party to prove they have the numbers to form the government.
