Recently a PIL has been submitted to the HC regarding the minimum age for the girl’s marriage. The PIL explains that the ages of the boy and girl should be similar for the marriage and the women and child development ministry has asked the views from the stake holders. During a programme of Bharatiya Stree Shakti (BSS) Nagpur branch, they have raised this matter and discussed the topic.
As per information the programme was held in Hindu Dharma Sanskruti office and BSS Sanghatanmantri Dr.Manisha Kotehekar presided the function. Gynaecologist Dr.Chaitanya Shembekar, sexologist Dr Sanjay Deshpande and lawyer Adv Renuka Shirpurkar were present in the programme and expressed their views. Dr Deshpande said that from the social and financial ponts, twenty-one years is better than 18 years for marriage.
Dr Shembekar stated that the age of menopause in girls is fixed; however, no age limit is fixed for andropause among boys. Now due to tension the age of andropause are happening in men aged between 45 to 50. Adv Sirpurkar has remarked that the object of law is a consideration of human life. Child marriage is a social offence but nowadays it is very rare. It is wrong to consider 18 years as ideal for marriage and divorces could cause social problems. An open forum was also there in the programme which included a question and answer session. The programme was witnessed large number of participants.
