Nagpur has taken a significant step towards smarter urban infrastructure with the launch of its first smart bus stop at Beltarodi, developed by the Besa-Pipla Nagar Panchayat. Designed to enhance commuter comfort, this modern facility is equipped with ceiling fans, mobile charging ports with multiple cable types (Type-C, Lightning, and Micro-USB), and well-lit seating under a sleek glass-and-steel canopy.
Built at a cost of ₹6.5 to ₹7 lakh, the bus stop aims to improve the daily travel experience for passengers through convenience and technology. Commuters now have access to cool air and charging points while they wait for buses—an upgrade welcomed particularly during Nagpur’s hot weather and for those who rely heavily on smartphones for work or study.
The stop also features clean tiled flooring, stainless steel benches, and provisions for advertising, which will help generate revenue for further improvements. Plans are underway to install water coolers to offer even greater comfort.
This is part of a broader initiative under the city’s Smart City Mission. Bharat Nandanwar, CEO of the Besa-Pipla Nagar Panchayat, announced similar stops will soon be developed at Revti Nagar, Ghogli, and Besa Square.
Daily commuters have praised the change. “It’s a welcome improvement. Fans and chargers make a big difference,” said a local student.
The Beltarodi smart bus stop sets a new benchmark for public transport infrastructure in Nagpur and marks the beginning of a commuter-first urban future.
