The online admission process for government hostels for the 2026-27 academic session is currently underway, and the Social Welfare Department has urged eligible students to submit their applications through the official portal.
Students can apply online for hostel admission by visiting the portal hmasnew.mahait.org. The last date for submitting applications for students seeking admission to Classes XI and XII as well as non-professional courses was earlier fixed as July 15. However, the deadline has now been extended till July 22.
A total of 25 government hostels are functioning in Nagpur district under the Office of the Assistant Commissioner, Social Welfare, Nagpur, functioning under the Department of Social Justice and Special Assistance. These include 14 hostels for backward class boys and girls in urban areas and 11 hostels for backward class students at the taluka level.
The Social Justice and Special Assistance Department operates government hostels and residential schools to support students belonging to backward classes and economically weaker sections. The Government Hostel Scheme aims to improve the educational, social and economic status of students from backward communities and provide them with opportunities for higher education and overall development.
Students admitted under the scheme are provided free accommodation and meals along with textbooks, notebooks and other educational materials. For additional information, students and parents can contact the superintendent of the concerned government hostel or the Office of the Assistant Commissioner, Social Welfare, Nagpur.
