Last year Maharashtra government banned the use of plastic for a greater good. Accordingly, the markets saw a decrease in the use and manufacturing of plastic items. These items included plastic carry bags, thermocol, plastic bottles and even use and throw material like plastic fork, spoon and thermocol plates as well. The government had banned a certain type of plastic which was not thick enough and had less than 50 microns.
The plastic which was allowed in the market must have a 20% recyclable rate and should have at least 50 microns or more.
The nuisance detection squad NMC are on the move to catch the corrupt sellers in the market. The squad daily conducts five to ten raids in the market. Till now 23,895 kilograms of plastic has been seized by the squad. The raids were conducted in market areas like Kalmna, Fule, Sitabuldi, Mahal, Ashi Nagar, GandhiBagh. The maximum amount of plastic was seized from Gandhibagh market where most of the shops were fined an amount of 10 thousand and above.
Till now 1289 cases have been recorded for which 66,45, 300 fine has been charged to the vendors all around the city. Recently 30,843 shops have been checked in Nagpur city specially malls, shopping centers and hotels.
