Soon after the news of the resignation of Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, in an immediate press conference which was called by CM Devendra Fadnavis today stated that he is resigning from the post of Maharashtra CM.
While addressing the press conference Fadnavis said that “the people showed their support to the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance. We had 105 seats and we never promised of 2.5 years for CM seat rotation. We waited for Shiv Sena but they made their alliance with NCP-Congress.
BJP will be work as an effective opposition and I am resigning from the post of Chief Minister of Maharashtra and soon will submit my resignation to the Governorâ€.
He added that “We do not have the numbers to form a government in Maharashtra as Ajit Pawar has resigned from his position as Deputy CM and due to this we do not have the required numbers to form a governmentâ€.
The development came as a setback to the BJP ahead of floor test which was ordered by Supreme Court earlier today.
