Field trips offer students a unique learning experience as it allows them to be involved in a new environment, have actual tactile experiences and encourage curiosity. A field trip helps students interact with what they are learning. The PrePrimary wing of DPS Lava visited the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum.
The Narrow Gauge Rail Museum is a unique museum on Kamptee Road, Nagpur. The museum has models and look-alikes of locomotives, trains, steam engines and the like. Spread over several galleries, the repository was inaugurated by Mr. Nitish Kumar in 2002. Students were enthralled to see coaches and engines displayed in the exhibition hall.
A toy train offers rides around that site on regular days. The children were given information about the various things like -Steam Locos, Diesel Loco, Old Compartments, Railway equipment, Communication equipment that were exhibited in the museum.
For the first time, parents were asked to accompany the students and the teachers on a field trip. This initiative strengthened the Parent Teacher Partnership.
The parents also helped take care of the children and enjoyed the excursion with them. They enthusiastically answered the questions asked by the children like – Where is the steering wheel of the train? What is a steam engine? How we can apply breaks in a train?
The best thing about the place was that there were no restrictions on touching or climbing up on the static trains. One can closely examine the old models with a free hand. Children had a great time in this museum.
Besides, the premises also had an amusement park, toy trains and swings for kids. This was like icing on the cake for the children as they not only had a learning experience but also had a fun picnic. The students learned the importance of railway transport and enjoyed every moment of the trip.
