Traffic at Ajni Railway over Bridge (RoB) noticed congestion due to collapse of a horizontal height gauge, on December 8. According to the sources the height gauge came down while a truck tried to pass through, which was much bigger than the size of the put up gauge. This height gauge was put up by Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) to restrain the entry of heavy and large vehicles on the RoB.
No injuries were noticed during this incident, but the traffic saw a heavy jam as the iron rods were spread all over the road. It is said that the height gauge was just put up a day prior to the incident.
The truck was too large to cross the barrier, but tried to cross the gauge. This attempt forced the height gauge to fall down and cause the mishap.
According the NMC and the report submitted by VNIT the bridge has become too old to sustain the heavy amount of traffic and heavy vehicles and needs a renovation. The bridge is also unstable that it can come down at any time if not taken care. So to prevent any future incidents the height gauge is put up by the NMC. This way the bridge can be used for more five year, else it should be brought down and a new one should be constructed.
