Ace shooter Tejaswini Sawant will be the chief guest of the SJAN-GH Raisoni Achievers Award function to be held on December 29. The award function will be jointly organised by Sports Journalists’ Association of Nagpur (SJAN) and Raisoni Group at Hotel Orient Taibah, Ghat Road, at 11 am.
The 39-year-old Sawant earned the Tokyo quota by finishing fifth in the 14th Asian Championships recently. She received the Arjuna award in 2011.Sawant represented India at the 9th South Asian Sports Federation Games in 2004 in Islamabad where she helped India win gold medal. In 2006, she won gold medals in Women’s 10 m Air Rifle singles and Women’s 10 m Air Rifle Pairs (with Avneet Kaur Sidhu) events at the Commonwealth Games at Melbourne.On August 8, 2010 she became the World Champion in the 50m Rifle Prone event in Munich, Germany. She was the first Indian woman shooter to win a gold medal at the World Championships with a world-record equalling score in the 50 m Rifle Prone event. In the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi, Sawant won silver in Women’s 50 rifle event and in 2018 Commonwealth Games she won gold at the e Women’s 50m Rifle event.
SJAN and Raisoni Group confers total seven awards every year including senior and junior sportsperson in men’s and women’s categories, sports organizer, best school and best college. SJAN secretary Suhas Nayse informed that the list of the awardees will be announced soon.
