Underprivileged Advancement by Youth (UPAY), an NGO working on providing free of cost education to the underprivileged kids living on the streets, slums is organising a one-day sports meet ‘Umang’ for such kids on Sunday at RTM Nagpur University playground.Speaking about UPAY zonal head Nitu Mishra said, “Started with three volunteers and 15 children from Mauda, today we have around 270 volunteers all over India who are invaluably contributing by teaching more than 1700 kids in Mauda, Nagpur, Pune, Delhi, Gurugram, Noida and Bengaluru. Along with primary education we are providing an opportunity to develop skills among the young children so that they can earn and make their living conditions better”. Addressing media person sports coordinator of UPAY Sarang Lakhani said the main aim behind the event is to provide an opportunity to the underprivileged children. He said around 250 kids from Nagpur and Mauda are expected to participate in the one-day meet which include various sporting event slike athletics track and field, kabaddi kho-kho, dodgeball, langdi, rope skipping, chess, tug of war etc. He said the meet will begin at 8.30 am and will conclude at 2.30 pm with prize distribution function.
Lakhani said Mayor Sandip Joshi, Indian pace bowler Umesh Yadav and DCP Ravindra Kadam will grace the occasion.
