The Bharatiya Janata Party suffered a humiliating defeat in Nagpur zilla parishad elections when the Congress and the NCP revived their influences the district by bagging 30 and 10 seats, respectively in 58-member house.
The BJP that ruled the Nagpur Zilla Parishad last time got only 15 seats. Interestingly, the party also suffered a major jolt in Dhapewada, the village of union minister Nitin Gadkari. The Congress nominee Mahendra Dongre won from the Dhapewada ZP circle by defeating the BJP candidate. Similarly, the BJP lost the Pachgaon ZP circle which was adopted by Gadkari under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojna.
The saffron party also suffered in Koradi circle, the village of former Maharashtra minister and an influential BJP leader from the district, Chandrashekhar Bawankule.
