Colleges should have a National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation as the companies approaching the colleges for placements always check this grading. It is noticed that the number of colleges in Maharashtra having the NAAC recognition has a higher chance to decrease within a period of time, even though the colleges are leading in getting the NAAC accreditation.
The current percentage of colleges having the recognition is below 40 per cent. And the number is expected to come down during the fourth round of the survey. Maharashtra has a high number of Engineering and Medical colleges, while the Arts, Science and Commerce colleges lack a stand within.
During the survey, it has also revealed that the colleges in Vidarbha fall even more less in rankings of NAAC.
There has to be an improvement in the rankings of colleges, said Rashtriya Uchchattar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA) adviser, Dr Pramod Pabrekar. In current situation, the colleges of Maharashtra getting A grade are less than 50% and what is more saddening is while only some  colleges and two universities have received an autonomous status.
