It has been reported that the Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government to reopen the killing of tigress Avni and to set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to find out the lapses that culminated into the death of the Pandharkawda tigress T1 or Avni.The killing of T1, as the tigress was officially known, led to an outrage among animal lovers and wildlife organisations.
As per the information, the structure of SIT has not determined yet, the forest minister Sanjay Rathod has been directed to do the required things regarding this matter.
Recently the Nagpur based wildlife activist Dr.Jerryl Banait had submitted a memorandum in this matter to the housing minister Jitendra Awahad.He also had a meeting with chief minister and Aditya Thackeray.And he demanded action against Hyderabad based sharp shooter Asghar Ali Khan who was not authorized to shoot Avni.
As per source, the investigations by the NTCA and state-level committees have also concluded that Asghar violated Arms Act,1958,Indian Veterinary Council Act(IVCA) 1984,Wildlife(Protection)Act,1972 and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act,1985.However,Asghar had got a clean chit from the Forest Development Corporation of Maharashtra(FDCM).The tigress Avni who was believed to have turned a man-eater and killed 13 people in the last two years in Yavatmal district. Avni was the mother of two 10-month-old cubs.
