The Sikh community in Nagpur is all set to celebrate the Lohri; the harvest festival on Monday.Lohri is termed as the festival of farmers in Northern India and is observed a night before Makar Sankranti.The festival is celebrated with tremendous enthusiasm by the people who get along with their family and friends on this festive occasion.
People are also organising various programmes on this auspicious occasion.Kirtans have been organised in the Gurudwaras. Several social organisations have also made preparations for these celebrations. The sweets are distributed to all neighbours, friends and relatives on the occasion. And preparations are in full swing at places like Indora,Vardhaman Nagar,Buddaji Nagar and several other areas.
As per information, different programmes have been organised in the Shriguru Ramdasji Ramdaspeth Gurudwara all day on January 13.Kirtan by Hajoori Ragi Bhai Pradeep Singh will take place from 7 pm to 8pm.And the Lohri will be lighted at 8pm.Besides this, the traditional Lohri celebrations will also organise at Preetam Bhavan by Punjab Seva Samaj.And a special event has been organised for children and newly-wed women from 4.30 pm to 5.30 pm.Punjabi dances, Punjab Dhol and cultural programme will be other attractions for the programme. Lohri marks the end of the long nights of winter and welcomes the longer days of summer, as the Sun begins its journey to the Northern Hemisphere.
