Tiger census will be carried out from January 15 in various sanctuaries in the country. This census is being done in collaboration with experts from the Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, Wildlife Conservation Trust and Wildlife Research and Conservation Society.
The procedure of census will be held in three phases, where the first phase will be the training of officers and personnel, second phase will be to install trap cameras and in the third phase of the census a transit line will be used to count tigers. It is also discussed that the places with low population of tigers, tiger footprints, type of predator, feces will be collected to gather the data and analyse it.
The work has already been started in Pench Project and Melghat tiger Project in December last year.
According to Nitin Kakodkar, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, this census will compile information about tiger pug marks, trap cameras, photos, predator and density in the protected region.
