An attempt to tackle the economic crisis of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), nation’s largest telecom company, the union government offered the option of voluntary retirement to the employees.
As per information, under this scheme,545 BSNL employees working in Nagpur will retire on January 31.As per source, the number of employees opting for voluntary retirement across the country is 78,816, And they all retire on the same day, Friday January 31.It is one of the largest retirement drives in the country. Reducing the number of employees is one way for the cash-strapped PSU to find a way out of the financial crisis.
It is said that due to the increase in losses of the company, 70 to 80 percent of the total income was being spent on the salary of the employees. It is said that employees have been given the option of retirement to avoid privatisation.
One thousand employees are working in Nagpur office and out of these 545 employees have accepted the option of voluntary retirement. And as per the rules of the company, others have opted to accept the responsibility of work at the site transferred. And from 1st February 2020, the employees have been instructed to take charge of their work at the transferred place.
