Department of Chemistry, Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology, Nagpur, in association with IGNOU Regional Centre, Nagpur and Sarvasati Vidhyalaya, Nagpur has organized Faculty Development Programme for Science Teachers at the school level, as an event of Diamond Jubilee Celebration of the institute, during 1 st – 2 nd February 2020. These two days event is sponsored by Royal Society of Chemistry (London), Indian Chapter, Bangalore under Yusuf Hamied Inspirational Chemistry Programme.
The programme was inaugurated by Prof. Prof. P. M. Padole, Director, VNIT Nagpur, Prof. S. Rajagopalan, Ex-Professor, Department of Physics, RTMNU and Dr. P. Shivaswaroop, Regional Director, IGNOU, Nagpur.
Fifty chemistry school teachers from various schools of Nagpur, Bhandara and Wardha districts have participated in the programme. The programme is intended to motivate and help in developing the professional skills of the participants by providing them new tools for delivering, engaging the effective chemistry lessons. Three modules were included in these two days event. In the first module, teachers were introduced to the concept of active learning, some new techniques and to plan a lesson around active learning. The second module was on chemical reactions and equations in order to increase students’ confidence when dealing with chemical reactions.
How to easily explain the particle nature of matter to a student is the theme of the third module. Overall, the programme was highly motivational and inspiring for the participants as it was deeply appreciated by them.
Prof. S. S. Umare, Head and Professor and Dr. Chayan Das, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, VNIT were the coordinators of the programme. Sri S. Prabhuraman, Principal Saraswati Vidyalaya, Nagpur extended strong support and assistance for the event.
