Save Merit Save Nation came into existence in Nagpur to protest the excessive reservation given by the previous Maharashtra Government, which was extended by keeping aside the 50% limit set by the Supreme Court of India. The institute was planted in Nagpur and soon its branches were spread to other talukas and district level places of Maharashtra. The dissatisfaction and resentment of the people against the extraordinary reservation started erupting through this organization.
For the last one year, the Save Merit Save Nation has been organising the peaceful morchas, ghantanad aandolan and other social awareness programs to sensitise the people about the ill effects of excessive reservations and the repercussions of the same. Save Merit Save Nation is also fighting a legal battle against this excessive reservation in Supreme Court of India,
From time to time, the government has tried to spread many wrong messages and illusions against the movement. There were also rumours that the agitation was meant to cancel the reservation completely. We want to mention here that this agitation is striving to remain fully within the framework of the law & the constitution of India and to give everyone their rights and to be within the limits of the 50 % imposed by the Supreme Court.
The dream of our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, of making the country as a world guru cannot come true by degrading or ignoring the merit. “Merit” means not only the marks scored in the exam but also includes art, music, dance, sports, science, research, drama, etc. We are struggling to get fair justice for the quality of all the fields. Quality can be reached with sincerity and hard work only and not by the concessions.
The State Level Executive Committee was announced under the chairmanship of Dr Anil Ladhad Nagpur at a meeting held on November 24, 2019 at Aurangabad, Maharashtra. All the divisions and districts of the State were properly represented in it. The target is set to increase the number of members to 24 lakhs by 2024.
Save Merit Save Nation has planned a “Run for Merit” campaign on February 9th, 2020 in more than 25 cities at a time in Maharashtra for the purpose of conserving quality and convincing people of its importance. It is intended to honour the quality of youth and students in various fields. This is not a competition but an attempt to express the resentment of the people in a democratic way in support of merit. The Run for Merit is approximately 3.5 km long and citizens from all walks of life will participate in this. It will include students, players, scientists, doctors, engineers, lawyers, chartered accountants, etc. The run for merit will start from the St Ursula Girls School Civil Lines in Nagpur. Registration for this will start at 6:30 am. It would be flagged off at 7: 00 am at the hands of meritorious students, artists, sports personalities etc. Proper arrangements for water and snacks have been made enroute. Ambulance with a doctor team also would be available in case of emergency. Registration for Run for Merit can also be made on the website www.runformerit.com.
From time to time, our work has been given proper publicity by your well-known daily. We are confident that you would continue the same in future also.
