Municipal Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe made a surprise visit to Bhandewadi dumping yard on Wednesday morning. He then learned about the method of weighing garbage. Mundhe also went to a mountain of garbage and got information about the waste collected by the Nagpur residents, during which he noticed that the mix was still coming to the dumping yard.
Further Mundhe asked the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) officers to inform the citizens on separating the garbage into wet and dry waste. Citizens will also be fined for not doing garbage disposal. Garbage collection companies have also been instructed to collect segregated garbage.
Mundhe also blamed the citizens for the high rise in airborne diseases. He said “if the citizens would have separated the garbage from the beginning of this plan, the dumping yard won’t have such big piles of mixed garbage and even the civic body could have reused the plasticsâ€.
About one lakh people suffer from asthma in Nagpur. Therefore, the Commissioner has given top priority to processing waste in a scientific manner.
