A good news for the medical aspirants of the city as on saturday Mayo received a communiqué which informed  about the  allotment of 31 more seats for post-graduation (PG) .As per the information, Preventive and Social Medicine and surgery department have been allotted maximum number of seats.
Both these departments have been allotted 7 each more seats for PG.As per Medical Council of India’s (MCI) guidelines, earlier, the professor used to get three, co-professor two and assistant professor used to get one PG student. Now, those co-professors completing three years and publishing research papers in these three years are entitled for three seats. Similarly, if one unit of a professor, co-professor and assistant professor has a ward of 40 beds then such a unit will get 5 PG students. In addition to these, if a unit does not have a professor but has a co-professor and an assistant professor with three years of experience, then such unit will also be receiving five PG students henceforth, as per Medical Council’s descion.
Accordingly, the Department of Medical Education and Research (DMER) had directed all the government medical colleges to submit their proposals for increased PG seats before May 2019. Mayo had sent its proposal after which the MCI had studied the human resource and infrastructure facilities. Seats increased Pharmacology department earlier had two PG seats. With an increase of three new seats, the department will have 5 PG seats. Preventive and Social Medicine (PSM) department had three sets earlier. It has been allotted seven more seats taking the number of PG seats to ten. Microbiology had four seats and has received four more taking its number of PG seats to eight.
Biochemistry had two seats earlier and has been allotted another five seats taking the number to seven PG seats.Anaesthesia department had five seats and has received five more seats taking its number to 10 seats. Surgery department had five seats and has been allotted seven more seats taking its figure to 12 seats. To benefit students, surgery department has been allotted seven seats taking its total number to12 PG seats at Mayo. Similarly, Anaesthesia.department has also received five more seats taking the number to 10 PG seats.
