Enjoying sex life is a sign of a healthy, happy life, says renowned sexologist Dr. Sanjay Deshpande who was invited as the Chief Guest at the inaugural function of 12th Annual Conference of the Association of Physicians of India, Vidarbha branch.
While addressing the audience, Dr. Deshpande said that there is a misconception in the society that we don’t feel the need to seek sexual pleasure as we grow older. When patients of 45 years and above, suffering from diabetes, and hypertension come to the physicians and they are bombarded with several health questions. But they are never asked about the sex life. Good sex life is also important for controlling diabetes and high blood pressure. Therefore, doctors should ask this question and advise them.
Dr. Deshpande said that the biggest enemy of sex life is age but eliminating sexual dysfunction in a spouse after the age of 45 is beneficial for both of them. Besides age, obesity, improper lifestyle, smoking, 10 o 14 percent diabetes, 29 percent in the city and 27 percent high blood pressure in rural areas, cardiovascular disease addictions and wrong relationships are the enemies of sex life. Even after age of 45, around 69 percent of people enjoy sex life.
According to a study by the American National Council on Aging Foundation, 60 percent of people between the ages of 45 and 59 enjoy their sex lives. The age should not cause depression about the sex life. In the meantime, if you remain ‘inactive’, sex life is likely to disappear. So be ‘active’ even at this age, added Dr. Deshpande.
Mangesh Tiraskar President of Maharashtra Medical Council Shiv Kumar Utture, Dr. Ashish Satav, Dr. Prabhakar Deshpande, Dr Praful Kadu Dr Suhas Kanfade were also present at the event.
Dr. Amol Meshram conducted the proceedings and Dr. Asawari Deshpande proposed a vote of thanks.
