State Election Commission (SEC), on Monday, announced elections to 1,570 Gram Panchayats (GPs) in State which include 1,289 GPs from Vidarbha region. The voting will be held on March 29 while results will be declared on March 30.
The district wise number of Gram Panchayats from Vidarbha that will go to polls is as follows: Amravati — 526, Yavatmal — 461, Gadchiroli — 296, Wardha — three; Akola, Buldhana, and Nagpur — one each. As per the programme, the nomination papers will be accepted between March 6 and March 13.
The forms will be examined on March 16. The interested candidates will be allowed to withdraw from the elections till March 18. Polling will be held between 7.30 am and 5.30 pm on March 29. Counting of votes and declaration of results is scheduled on March 30. Interestingly, the Sarpanch to these GPs will be elected directly by the people.
