It is observed that many new born infant are malnourished due to low intake of their mother’s milk. The supply of mother’s milk is many times low due to several reasons. Putting a curb to all such problems, the government educational department has decided to have a Human Milk Bank made available for all the Government Medical Hospital and Colleges.
Nagpur is also likely to get its own Milk Bank in the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) as three doctors from GMCH have been selected for the training program to set up the Milk Bank. A team had before conducted an examination of several hospitals in Maharashtra after which doctors from each government hospitals were selected for the training programme.
The banks will be a best remedy to help those mothers who are unable to provide enough milk to their babies due to some medical reasons. The low intake of breast milk could also affect babies in their physical and mental development.
These banks was supposed to be set in Indira Gandhi government Medical College and Hospital although due to the lack of space available at Mayo, GMCH was selected to have these banks.
The selected doctors have been sent to Mumbai for further training and only GMCH will be having the Milk Bank in whole Nagpur.
