Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan, after 33 years of its release, is still ruling the Indian television as Doordarshan has started the the re-telecast of Ramayan amid the trying times of COVID-19 followed by lockdown. And the show has become the most “watched entertainment show in the world.” The re-telecast of Ramayan has amassed a viewership of 7.7 crores, creating a world record. The mythological tale of principles, truth, and Dharma had fetched an audience of 17 million from the very first week. The show is re-telecast on government-based T.V. channel Doordarshan.
Doordarshan National took to Twitter to inform about their success, and wrote “WORLD RECORD!! Rebroadcast of #Ramayana on #Doordarshan smashes viewership records worldwide, the show becomes the most-watched entertainment show in the world with 7.7 crore viewers on the 16th of April.”
Doordarshan started with the re-telecast of Ramanyana, and as the viewership started spreading like forest-fire, soon other iconic shows like Mahabharat, Byomkesh Bakshi, Shriman- Shrimati, and Shaktiman were added to the list. In grave and extremely strenuous times like these, it becomes really necessary to keep up with a positive approach towards life.
Meanwhile, other T.V. channels that had considerably significant viewership traffic are finding it very difficult to sustain amid the coronavirus pandemic. With no new shows to telecast due to nationwide lockdown, T.V. channels are facing huge drip in their TRPs.
