Property tax is in true sense a real source of revenue for civic authority and NMC all set to collect the tax from the property owners. The Tax Assessment and Tax Collection Committee held a meeting on Wednesday at Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Memorial Hall, NMC Central Office, Civil Lines, after a gap of three months and asked officials to update mobile numbers of property owners and ensure they get receipts for delivery of notices.Tax Assessment and Tax Collection Committee of civic authority has asked the department to ensure that, by July end, the demand notices of property tax to reach the owners.
The committee held its meeting on Wednesday at Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Memorial Hall, NMC Central Office, Civil Lines, after a gap of three months and asked officials to update mobile numbers of property owners and ensure they get receipts for delivery of notices.
During the current financial year, 5, 59,421 notices have been generated and same have been sent across 10 zones of NMC for distribution.Similarly, NMC’s Tax Department has compiled data of 6,35,021 properties in city through GSI mapping but tax receipt generation is not based on the same. The officials have been asked to make use of GSI data and ensure total delivery of tax receipts by end of July. The Committee is apprised on weekly basis about number of tax receipts distributed through zones. The most contentious issue is that property owners take objection on tax demand and for this the officials were directed to hold Samadhan Shibir in month of September 2020 and later, in January 2021 so that if there are any discrepancies then same can be reconciled. The objections, should be sorted out within a period of one month. The committee also asked for holding Tax Collection camps in the zone to enable citizens to pay their dues. The camps can be held in months of September and December. Similarly, officials should intensify action against defaulters from October onwards and auction of seized properties too should be started.
