The Union Cabinet, on Wednesday, allowed 7.4 crore, poor women, to avail quota of 3 free LPG cylinders till September, with this Rs 13,500 crore to be spent on the scheme.
The Cabinet has also approved in extending free foodgrain, pulses to 81 crore people under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana for five months till November.
Prakash Javadekar, Minister of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Information and Broadcasting, Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, and Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture and Farmer Welfare, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, are addressing the media about the Cabinet Decisions taken on Wednesday.
The step was first announced by PM Narendra Modi on June 30, in view of the need for continuous support to the poor and needy.
The Union Cabinet also approved the extension of time limit for availing the benefits of “Pardhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana” for Ujjwala beneficiaries by three months with effect from 1st July 2020. Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana (PMGKY) aims to provide a safety net to the poor and vulnerable who had been hit the hardest by the pandemic.
