“Citizens are being repeatedly urged to follow coronavirus guidelines issued by the government. However, the continuous appeal is not getting the expected response from the citizens. Irresponsible behaviour of shopkeepers such as not following the even and odd rule, no use of masks, not following physical distancing at shops and market places may push us to impose lockdown in the city once againâ€, said Mayor Sandeep Joshi on Tuesday during his visit to markets under Dharampeth zone
During the public awareness drive, the mayor noticed crowd of customers at Mangalkar Jewelers at Laxmi Bhuvan Chowk. Taking strong cognisance the Mayor directed the Nuisance Detection Squad (NDS) to recover fine from the owner of the shop for violating the rules.
Apart from this, the mayor also directed to take action against Milton Gift and Toy Shop for violating even and odd date rule. He also directed the NDS team to remove encroachment from Gokulpeth to Ram Nagar road. Following the orders from the mayor, the team recovered a fine of Rs. 5,000.
The Mayor started the inspection from Shankarnagar Chowk. Walking around West High Court Road, Laxmi Bhuvan Chowk, Gokulpeth Bazar, Ramnagar area. He appealed the citizens to follow the guidelines regarding Covid-19. In order to prevent Covid-19 infection, everyone should responsibly consider the health of themselves and others and follow all the rules, he said.
