A move to prevent the encroachments in the city, the civic chief Tukaram Mundhe on Tuesday inspected the markets on the city on CA Road, Golibar Chowk, Maskasath, Itwari, Machibazar, etc. Those who kept the goods on the pavement, the shop keepers whose shops were crowded and the sculptors of Chitar Oli were fined. A fine of Rs.5000 to 10000 was imposed for trespassing and violating rules. He first visited the areas at Central Avenue.
Then he visited Jagannath Budhwari area via Golibar Chowk where he fined grocery shop keepers of up to Rs.10000.The encroachment department seized the goods worth lakhs of rupees of hardware vendors of Machhi Bazaar,Juna Motor stand, on the sidewalk. The goods included pipes, iron goods, tires of trucks and bulldozers; footwear shop material was also seized. Municipal commissioner cautioned that a fine of Rs.5000 to Rs.10000 is currently being imposed against those who violate the rules. If still the rules are not followed and if encroachments are seen again, the fine will be increased to 25000.
